Effective June 2, Erin assumed the role of Deputy Insurance Commissioner. Erin joined the agency in August 2021 following a distinguished 25-year career in health insurance, including financial management for a federal government program and internal audit management. At CSI, she has provided financial regulation for Montana-based insurance companies, administered the state’s Section 1332 waiver program, and overseen mandatory defrayal requirements under the Affordable Care Act. Erin will also continue to oversee captives in the immediate term. “I look forward to working with Auditor Brown and his team to provide quality insurance regulation and consideration of insurance issues affecting Montanans. The employees at CSI work hard. I love working alongside them and am very excited to continue to do so.”

Kari is a Certified Financial Examiner (CFE) and a CPA with 11 years of insurance regulatory experience. Her focus with the regulatory team is the supervision of the Examinations Bureau staff, financial analysis of captive and traditional insurers, and supervision of all examination work. Prior to working at the CSI, Kari was a Corporate Income Tax Auditor with the Montana Department of Revenue.
Dakota is embarking on her third year with the captive regulatory team, including a 3-month stint as a captive intern in the Summer of 2021 between her junior and senior years at Montana State University (MSU). Dakota graduated from MSU with a degree in Financial Engineering. With the captive regulatory team, she is the go-to person who handles the nuts & bolts of captive operations, assisting industry personnel with captive structure questions, new formations, mergers & acquisitions, business plan reviews, loan and dividend requests, and corporate document filing guidance. Dakota loves gardening, cooking, riding horses, skiing, and all things outdoors.
Ramona is in her ninth year with the Department and is in her fourth year of providing operations and compliance support to the captive regulatory team. Her previous roles with the Department included a position with the agency’s Central Services Bureau, and she also held a Legal Secretary position with the Department’s Legal Services Bureau. Ramona’s husband (Ted) also works for the Department; he is the Bureau Chief of Insurance Investigations and Insurance Consumer Services. Ramona and Ted enjoy working on their future mountain cabin and they are avid antique collectors!
Jason joined Montana’s regulatory team last year, bringing 4 years of accounting experience to the regulatory team. Jason had worked for the Auditor General in Arizona, conducting annual financial and compliance audits of all State agencies, counties, community college districts, and universities in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards, Government Auditing Standards, and federal single audit requirements. After moving to Montana in 2022 Jason worked for the Department of Administration’s Local Government Services department providing financial and accounting services to state agencies and local governments. Jason then transferred to the Statewide Accounting Bureau team where he participated in the completion of the 2023 State of Montana Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). Jason is married to his wife Heather and they have 3 children Canaan, Eden, and Ezekiel.
Bill joined Montana’s regulatory team last year, bringing 2 years of accounting and financial reporting experience from the private sector to the team. Bill had originally graduated from Montana State University with Double Bachelors in Accounting and Finance, and continued onwards receiving his Masters in Accounting in late 2022. He has entered his second year working as the primary analyst for a growing number of Risk Retention Groups and continues to seek out further education opportunities to further enhance his understanding and abilities in insurance regulation. Bill is an avid traveler, having completed over 20 cross-country road trips, visited over 40 U.S. states and many of the National Parks, and is currently filling out his international travel bucket list.
